Description

Product overview

Product Overview

The Gladiator G40 is a heavy mid-range Horizontal Directional Drill delivering 40,465 FT-LBS of thrust and pullback force — powered by a 167 HP Cummins engine and engineered for contractors taking on larger infrastructure projects including major pipeline installations, large-diameter conduit bores, and long crossings up to 984 FT.

Weighing 21,605 lbs and measuring 267.7 in L × 89 in W × 93.7 in H, the G40 steps up significantly in weight, capacity, and capability from the G30 — with a dual rack & pinion carriage system, rotating cab, and compatibility with both 2.87 and 2.36 inch rod sizes for maximum application flexibility.

Performance Specifications

The G40 delivers 40,465 FT-LBS of thrust and pullback at 164 FT/MIN, with a rotary torque of 5,963 FT-LBS. The fluid system operates at 66 GPM @ 1080 PSI with a rotation speed of 220 RPM. Entry angle is 21 degrees, with a suggested crossing length of up to 984 FT and a suggested reaming diameter of up to 31.49 inches.

Rod System

The G40 features a 40-rod onboard rack compatible with both 2.87 and 2.36 × 118.11 inch drill rods — giving operators flexibility to match rod selection to soil conditions and bore requirements. This dual rod size compatibility is a key advantage of the G40 over smaller models in the lineup.

Construction & Carriage System

The G40 is built with a steel hood, rotating cab, and rod loader arms as standard. The dual rack & pinion carriage system delivers smooth, precise force application across the full thrust and pullback range — critical for bore path control on longer, more complex crossings in varying ground conditions.

Operator Comfort & Controls

The rotating cab provides operators with optimal visibility and ergonomic comfort across long drilling shifts. Wireless remote with hydraulic lockout shut-off ensures safe, precise control of all drilling functions. Standard onboard systems include auto anchor, mud flow adjust, and shut-off valves. Safety features cover antifreeze tank, strike alert, and seat sensor.

Ideal Applications

The Gladiator G40 is built for: large-diameter utility pipeline installations, conduit bores under major roads and highways, trenchless river and waterway crossings up to 984 FT, telecom and power infrastructure projects, and any application requiring 40,000+ FT-LBS class thrust with a 167 HP Cummins powerplant.

Machine Dimensions & Weight

Weight: 21,605 lbs. Dimensions: 267.7 in Length × 89 in Width × 93.7 in Height.
